This program provides opportunities for the youth to deepen their relationship with God and others by creating a sense of community in which they can recognize and discover God’s love. Activities include those that meet the spiritual, developmental and social needs for the youth of the parish in grades 9-12.

Confirmation for our youth will be April 8, 2018, at the 11 am Mass.

Confirmation is the completion of baptism, the giving of the full power of a Christian. "Confirmation" means a strengthening -- this sacrament strengthens and increases what we receive at baptism, particularly the power of bearing witness to Christ. To emphasize this, the ceremony of confirmation includes a renewal of our baptismal promises. We now become full-fledged members of the Church, lay apostles in the fullest sense. The bishop confirms the young people in a special ceremony.

SEPTEMBER SOCIAL;  Friday, September 8 at 5:30 p.m.  This will be the all-time favorite…pot luck Dinner.  We always have a good variety of foods and deserts.  The Church doors will be open from 4:15 until 5:25 p.m.  Please be on time because the person keeping the door open doesn’t want to keep everybody else waiting for them.   If you haven’t signed up please do so. SPECIAL PROGRAM;  We were fortunate that Margie was able to get Sgt. Rollie Branham of the MWC police department to speak to us.  His topic will be Senior Safety Tips and Scam Awareness. We will also play BINGO afterwards.  Should be an evening you don’t want to miss.

SEPTEMBER OUTING to Yonderland on Sept. 14 has been moved to another date.  See below.  They weren’t quite as far along in their building as they previously thought and appreciate us changing the date.  See below for details.

SYMPATHY; We were saddened when again one of our Golden Angels, Cathy Hearn, was called to her eternal reward.  Our sympathy to her daughter,Joanne Rickard and rest of the family.

It is easier for the earth to exist without the sun than without the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

                                                                                                               --Padre Pio

BOARD MEMBERS;  It is time in October to elect 3 new board members.  Helen Breeden, Edith Deitz and Vinola Smith  have all served their terms causing the vacancies.  Please be prepared to nominate someone who would be willing to serve or volunteer yourself.  Board members meet once a month, approximately 1 hour,  to plan upcoming events and then make sure they happen. We have had excellent cooperation with all board members and expect the same for the future making the acceptance of a position on the Golden Angels board something one should gladly accept.

OCTOBER OUTING TO Younderland on Thursday, October 5.  The bus will leave SPN at 9:00 a.m. and return about 4:30 p.m.  There is no charge but we will take up a collection for Yonderland, as they are not charging us for the use of the facility and on the way home the usual collection for the bus. The retreat will include: Live Presentation Speakers, Music, DVD presentations, morning and afternoon snacks, lunch,  games, The Holy Rosary, Stations of the Cross (your choice), The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, door prizes and BEAUTIFUL scenery.  Due to space restrictions, registration is limited to 23 people.  Please sign up on the table in the Narthex.

OCTOBER SOCIAL;  Friday, October 6th, at 5:30 p.m.  It will be the annual Octoberfest with Brats and Trimmings.   We are also planning on having grilled chicken breast for those unable to eat the brats. Board members will prepare this meal and all will pay $6 per person.  Be sure to sign up because if you don’t  there may not be enough food.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.   I was recently asked by two members if we could hold the  December, January and February Socials in the daytime, say 12:30 or 1:00 p.m. because of the weather and it gets so dark so early in the evening .  I did get permission from Father Fuller to use the new St. Augustine room  these 2nd Fridays of these three months.  He said to check with Triny if it was available.  It is and it is up to you, the members, to decide if that’s what’you want to do.  We have to change locations because the school children use the Felician Hall and there could be a funeral dinner and the hall would be used.   I have to know to reserve the St. Augustine room as soon as possible.  We will talk about it at our Social on Friday, September 8.

COUNT ME IN.  When you joined the Golden Angels you were asked to fill out the Count Me In Form and pay $1 and you have been a very good member.  Since I’ve been a member one of our Golden Angels fell in the parking lot and another found him and was able to help call his relative. Thankfully he was not badly hurt.  Another at another GA function collapsed and needed hospitalization.  There again others were present and able to help.  This got me to thinking that anything could happen to any one of us when we are meeting in the Felician Hall and we wouldn’t know who to contact.  So I went to the office where the Count Me In forms were kept  and asked to go through them and found many members’ forms were not found. They may have been taken years past  by someone making a mailing list or a program and were not put back where they belonged.  I was given list of names and addresses of members when I became chairman so I will be asking you to fill out a new Count Me In form.  I will then make 2 copies one will be kept by the golden angels chairman, one will be put in a large manila envelope and kept in one of the storage closets near the kitchen and the original will be kept in the church office. This is just simple record keeping and needs to be rectified.  When given a new form please be kind, fill it out and return to me.  Thank you.

NEXT BOARD MEETING;  Monday, Sept. 18th at 1”00 p.m. in the Lamb Room.  You are welcome to attend any board meeting and share your thoughts good or not.  We strive to make the Golden Angels the best we can to benefit our members and entire parish.

Until next time God bless you.
